Jorge Fuembuena

Fellow artist of La Casa de Velázquez (Acadèmie de France à Madrid). Lives and works in Madrid and Nantes (France). He is a photography teacher in SUR School of Visual Arts (Founded by La Fábrica and Círculo de Bellas Artes Madrid), in Photoespaña International Master and in Istituto Europeo di Design, and he has given many master classes in universities such as Nebrija, Carlos III, TAI or Arte10. He has been invited as speaker in Albarracín Photography Seminar and the Gijón Photography Festival.

He has participated in the prestigious international program Plat(t)form 2013, curated by Fotomuseum Winterthur (Switzerland), and has presented his work in solo exhibitions at festivals such as the International Festival of Photography Photoespaña 2020, 2015 and 2013, Photo Zurich International Art Festival 2020 (Switzerland), Grand Prix Lodz Fotofestiwal 2020 (Poland), Athens Photo Festival 2017 (Greece), Kaunas Photo 2017 (Lithuania), Paraty Em Foco 2013 (Brazil), curated by Claudi Carreras, International Arlés Photography Festival Voies Off 2015 (France), International Festival of Photography Pingyao 2015 (China), curated by Moritz Neümuller, Encontros Da Imagem 2012 (Braga, Portugal), curated by Rui Prata, Bitume Photofest 2016 (Lecce, Italy), PalmaPhoto 2013 (Palma de Mallorca) and Getty Images Gallery ( London) or FLORA Ars and Natura (Colombia), curated by José Roca.

Selected in the Austro Sino Arts Program project exhibition 2012 (Beijing, China), his work is shown in Biennials such as the Trienale di Milano 2017, the Thesaloniki Bienale 2016 (Greece), the V Contemporary Art Biennale ONCE Foundation 2015 (Madrid), the Casablanca Biennale 2012 and Fotoseptiembre 2011 (CCEMEX. Mexico D.F.). He has also exhibited in museums such as Es Baluard (Mallorca), Bòlit (Girona), Arts Santa Mónica (Barcelona) or CDAN (Huesca).

His work has been selected for the publication Contexto Crítico: Fotografía española del s. XXI (EXIT, 2013), and also for the publication NEW SPANISH PHOTOGRAPHY, Visions beyond borders (New York and Washington, 2014). Jesús Mico selected him in 2017 for the exhibition Reciente Fotografía de autor en España, un cierto panorama, in Canal de Isabel II (Madrid). He was included in the book The A-Z of Spanish Photographers (La Fábrica, 2015).
He has also exhibited in International Art Fairs such as Paris Photo 2020, ARCO 2020, Just X Lisboa 2018, The Solo Project, Art Basel 2015, Pulse Miami 2015, Off Photo Paris 2015, Just Mad 2014, Summa 2013, Estampa 2013, Swab 2013, Arte Santander 2014 or Foro Sur 2014.

Among other awards, his work has received the AENA Foundation Prize, the prestigious International Biennial of Contemporary Photography Pilar Citoler Award, the Generations 2011, the International Festival of Visual Arts Emergent 2010, OCEMX Award 2011 (Mexico City), ARCO 2010 Photo Reportage Award and Gold Medal at the PX3 Prix 2012 (Paris, France), the Santa Isabel Portugal Photography Award for Young Author, 2008, IPA 2012 Competition (Lucie Foundation, NYC). Finalist in contests such as the Pilar Citoler International Photography Award 2012, the AENA Foundation 2012 or the Renaissance Photography Prize 2014 (London).

He has received grants such as the Santa Maria de Albarracín Photography Foundation 2010, the Encontro de Artistas Novos Cidade Da Cultura 2011 or the Istituto Europeo di Design Grant to study the European Master of Fine Art Photography in 2013.

He works as stills photographer and director of photography in numerous feature films and documentaries and is the official photographer of the San Sebastian International Film Festival, the Nantes Festival du Cinéma Espagnol, the Marseille Festival du Cinéma Espagnol, the Malaga Film Festival, and he collaborates with the Spanish Film Academy, the Basque Film Library, Avalon and Bteam, among many other producing companies.

He is currently represented by Galerie Frey (Vienna. Austria), Antonella Cattani (Bolzano, Italy), Max Estrella (Madrid), Addaya Art Contemporani (Mallorca), La Casa Amarilla (Zaragoza), MataderoMadrid and by the Plainpicture internatoinal agency, based in New York, Paris, London and Hamburg.
