“If you want to use the piece, pick it up and walk, if you want to do the piece pick it up and read it” La Ribot
Invited by Maurizio Cattelan for his exhibition Dimanche sans fin at Centre Pompidou-Metz, Walk the chair (2010) is a famous roving installation by La Ribot – The title is an instruction to the visitor: pick up a chair, and take it somewhere else. You can walk it wherever you like within the gallery, and sit on it to watch the visitors in action, or a video, to read, or to rest. Each of the fifty chairs is inscribed with a different quotation: words from artists, choreographers, philosophers and ordinary people, about movement, spectators and participatory art, about the action of writing, reading and walking, about the folding chair as an icon of design revolution. A metal ring on each chair indicates the beginning of the quote.
It will be on display until February 02, 2027.
