We are happy to share with you that Max Estrella Gallery has been granted with the 2020 Soledad Lorenzo Award in the category of Exhibition Project for the solo show by José Val del Omar, From Gutenberg to Faraday (February 15th to April 28th, 2018).
The objective of these awards is to recognize the fundamental work of gallery owners as discoverers of new artists, promoters of their careers, mediators between creators and collectors, generators of cultural heritage and knowledge, and disseminators of the values associated with art and collecting in society.
The category of Exhibition Project, in which we have been awarded, recognizes the most interesting and original solo or group show during seasons 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 in a Spanish art gallery, especially valuing their contributions to knowledge about the creators, their artistic movements and cultural context.
About the exhibition From Gutenberg to Faraday
Max Estrella presented José Val del Omar’s oeuvre (Granada 1904 – Madrid 1982) for the first time in a gallery setting. His work was exhibited for years in cinephile circuits, international cinematheques, numerous institutions, museums and universities until the Reina Sofía Museum granted him the place he deserves as an unclassifiable and unique figure of the Spanish avant-garde movement.
In this great exhibition, curated by Piluca Baquero Val del Omar and Gonzalo Sáenz de Buruaga with the collaboration of the José Val del Omar Archive, included a selection of films, collages, technical creations, written texts, slides and tetrakinas by this multifaceted artist and inventor.
