The 2019 Swiss Grand Prix for Dance goes to La Ribot. The artist, who has been working and living in Geneva since 2004, is rewarded for her innovative creations throughout her career. This prize, endowed with 40,000 francs, will be awarded to her on October 17 in Friborg.
Born in Spain, María Ribot performs on stage, but also in galleries, moving between dance, performance, video works and visual arts. Her piece “Happy Island”, created in 2018, reveals a new facet of his creation.
La Ribot is recognized beyond the Swiss borders. She was the subject of a major retrospective at the “Tanz im August” festival in Berlin in 2017. This year, it is the turn of the “Autumn Festival” in Paris to devote a retrospective to her.
She will present her new work, “Please Please Please”, with French choreographer and dancer Mathilde Monnier and Portuguese author and director Tiago Rodrigues. A show that has only been presented at the Théâtre de Vidy in Lausanne.
