The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum presents "Collages. Aprendizaje en la desobediencia" a selection of around fifty collages by film director and screenwriter Isabel Coixet (1960). The exhibition, curated by Estrella de Diego, is part of the PhotoEspaña 2025 program.
Coixet has been working for years on collages of paper and photos reminiscent of the preparatory plans used by some Hollywood directors, who left nothing to chance. There is a continuity between what the filmmaker demands of viewers in her films and the narrative space where her collages place visitors. These works connect with the great avant-garde tradition of the genre—from Hanna Höch to Kurt Schwitters—and link Coixet with a certain precariousness, with that way of working with little that, in some way, the filmmaker also pursues in her cinema.
