Diana Fonseca presents her solo exhibition Entelequia at the Contemporary Cultural Center La Térmica in Málaga.
Diana Fonseca presents her exhibition Entelequia, a solo show featuring her most recent work. The word entelequia means “to have the end within itself.” It refers to the vital force that drives life, self-realization, and the conscious effort to reach an intrinsic goal that is, at the same time, its own purpose. It is in this process that the entity attains its perfection., From this philosophical premise, Fonseca conceives her artistic practice as her own entelequia: human beings, by nature, tend to seek beauty, what evolves and becomes refined, and art becomes the most genuine medium through which to undertake that journey., Diana Fonseca’s artistic process arises from personal emotions and experiences, although it often also reflects a collective or generational sentiment. Over time, with its changing rhythms, new questions, desires, nostalgias, dreams, and needs emerge. All of this shapes the creative practice of the Cuban artist., This exhibition is presented as an emotional collage: a collection of objects that serve as channels of connection to the artist’s inner world. It is a process that seeks to approach truth, because for Fonseca, to be in truth is to be at peace and to be at peace is perhaps the purest form of self-realization., Diana Fonseca is an artist devoted to the almost obsessive deconstruction of simple things and everyday occurrences around her. Perhaps because of this, or due to the lyrical inclination of her work, she captures varied images of reality and interconnects them through narratives that speak of contemporary life and its visual saturation—of emptiness and banality. A graduate of ISA, the University of the Arts in Cuba, she has exhibited in major galleries and museums in Cuba, Europe, and the United States. In 2015, she received the EFG Bank & ArtNexus Acquisition Prize in Bogotá.
