Francisco Carolinum Museum presents the artist and poet’s first institutional retrospective. In ‘Read the Room’, the Colombian-American poet and multidisciplinary artist Ana María Caballero explores language as a living medium that continues to change through reading, translation, memory, the body, and technology. Her poetry moves beyond the page into installations, performances, moving images, sculptures, and generative systems. At the heart of the exhibition is the idea that meaning is not created by the writer alone. Readers, bodies, and the contexts in which we encounter language all become part of the work – turning poetry into something continuously evolving.
Read the Room offers, for the first time, a comprehensive view of the interconnections between the analog and the digital, physicality and algorithms, and the individual poem and its countless interpretations. It reveals a work that does not separate these apparent opposites, but rather makes their mutual interdependence tangible.
