At the center of a room, a cymbal—the musical instrument—vibrates. A system that utilizes acoustic energy and lasers activates the cymbal, making its intrinsic vibrations audible and visible. Thus, the instrument sounds, and its visual vibrations float around it. These ethereal “materials” are used to create an abstract narrative that unfolds in space and time. As the piece evolves, the cymbal and its surrounding space undergo different levels of activation, which audiences experience as variations in the complexity of both the audible and visible waves. Harmonic Motion explores the vibrational essence of the natural world and how this vitality of everything shapes who we are and all we manifest.
