We’re delighted to announce that Colombian artist Ana María Caballero is joining Max Estrella Gallery’s roster of artists. Ana María Caballero is a transdisciplinary artist whose work explores the tension between corporeality and identity, between biological processes and their cultural implications, and between ecology and the narratives we construct to explain it ( thus attempting to control it).
Through a practice that encompasses poetry, performance, sculpture, installation, and digital media, Caballero challenges dominant discourses. Her innovative fusion of literature and technology also explores the evolution of the book, redefining what it means to be a poet in the contemporary and digital world.
She’s the recipient of several literary awards, including the Academy of American Poets Prize, the Beverly International Literature Prize, the José Manuel Arango National Poetry Prize from Colombia, the Clay Reynolds Novella Prize, and the Future Art Writers Prize. The first living poet to sell a poem at Sotheby’s, she’s also the first artist ever to receive three simultaneous nominations for the Lumen Prize.
Her work has been featured in publications such as artnet, Observer, Monopol, Poetry International, ArtNews, BOMB, Poets.org, and El País. Her work is part of collections such as the Reina Sofía Museum, MACBA, the Ashmolean Museum, HEK Basel, the Francisco Carolinum Museum, Spalter Digital, and the Stahlberg Collection, and has been presented at venues like Art Basel, the Venice Biennale, the V&A, the Miguel Urrutia Art Museum, the March Foundation, and ICA Miami.
A graduate of Harvard University, she’s the author of eight books and the co-founder of the digital poetry platform theVERSEverse.
