Centro Botín celebrates an unusual concert for plants with Eugenio Ampudia.
On July 9 at 1:30 pm, the Pereda Gardens at Centro Botín Santander will host a unique artistic experience: a Concert for Plants directed by the renowned Spanish artist Eugenio Ampudia.
This action, framed in the summer courses of the University of Cantabria, invites the public to attend accompanied by their own plants, creating a dialogue between nature and culture. “We can only evolve by taking nature into account if we look at it horizontally,” explains Ampudia about this initiative that has already toured stages such as the Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Teatro Sucre in Ecuador.
Unlike previous versions – where plants were the only spectators – this edition encourages human participation. Attendees will become “guardians” of their plants during the musical performance, thus making the interspecies connection visible. The Guitar Group of the Jesús de Monasterio Conservatory, directed by Natalia Díaz, will be in charge of offering this 30-minute concert, combining student learning with experimental art.
Eugenio Ampudia, AECA Award for best living Spanish artist at ARCO (2008 and 2018), has spent years exploring the political role of art and its ability to question our relationship with the environment. “Art allows us to look at nature as equals,” insists the creator from Valladolid, whose work has been exhibited internationally. This event reinforces his search for new exhibition formats that challenge conventions.
Centro Botín thus consolidates its commitment to innovative artistic experiences accessible to all audiences. While the guitars sound and the plants “listen”, Santander prepares to live a day where art, education and ecology are intertwined.
