We are very happy to announce that the second resident of El Núcleo this year will be the Colombian artist Miler Lagos in the period June / July 2021.
The SZ Foundation is a non-profit organization established in October 2018 by Sara Zaldívar and Fernando Sarasola. The statutory purposes included are the promotion of culture, artistic creation and research in the field of fine arts.
The Foundation’s Artists’ Residence, called “El Núcleo” is located just 30 minutes from Madrid and 15 from Segovia in a unique setting next to the Mountains of El Espinar, a Bio-Sphere reserve. The residence is located within the Yeguada El Espinar, a high performance equestrian center of more than 100 hectares with beautiful gardens.
Miler Lagos’ practice is based on dialogue and experimentation with materials, which appear as catalysts for the central issues in his artistic discourse.
One of the fundamental points of reflection of him is the relationship between images and objects, between content and container. Wood or paper serve as a means of representation for his interest in the intersection between nature and culture. There is a deep interest in studying how the human being has shaped his space or has been shaped by environmental and geographical conditions. There is also an intention to raise awareness about the conservation of the environment and how we gradually turn nature into a resource to inhabit it, into raw material, in just a vehicle.
Miler Lagos’ work is present in the collections of the MUAC Museum of Art of the Autonomous University of Mexico, Harvard University, the Bank of the Republic of Colombia, the Rubell Family Collection and the CIFO Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation, among others.
Lagos’ stay in Spain is in collaboration with Galería Max Estrella. His works will be exhibited at ARCO 2021.
