‘Amalgama Phillips’ at the Phillips Collection, Washington DC

Sep 14 2021 - Jan 2 2022

Daniel Canogar presents Amalgama Phillips, a collaboration with with the Phillips Collection to celebrate the museum's 100th anniversary as part of its Digital Intersections program.

Amalgama Phillips uses 550 images of artworks from the museum’s permanent collection to create a generative digital artwork that liquefies all the works in a seamless blend of melted imagery. The piece is constantly evolving, producing new visual configurations driven by an algorithm. Amalgama Phillips explores how digital media is shifting our experience and understanding of art. The swirling visual effects that have altered the original artworks parallel our ever-changing reality as well as the ceaseless flow of information on social media that has also transformed how art is consumed.
