Aitor Ortiz

‘Entre Arquetipos y Artefactos’ at the Lázaro Galdiano Museum, Madrid

Feb 27 - Apr 27, 2025

Aitor Ortiz presents a simultaneous exhibition of his latest works related to memory and the aesthetic influence distilled by technical and industrial processes. The journey that Aitor Ortiz invites us to take in this exhibition transports us both to the industrial operations that shaped the world during the 20th century and to the discarded materials that this same activity generated along the way, finding an echo in the diversity and richness of the Lázaro Galdiano Museum’s collection.

The journey that Aitor Ortiz proposes in this exhibition transports us both to the industrial operations that shaped the world during the 20th century and to the discarded materials that that same activity generated in its course. To this end, what is presented here is not the most visible face of techniques and technologies: it is not the finished products or the language of design. What emerges then is what went on behind the scenes, the aesthetics not of consumer goods but of the processes themselves. Of the forces, volumes and surfaces that shaped them.

In this dialogue between the technical and the artisanal, the works find an echo in the diversity and richness of the Museo Lázaro Galdiano Collection. Like the armor, ornaments and historical pieces with which they share space, these creations invite us to reflect on the transformation of objects over time, rescuing the traces of the practices that have shaped our material culture.
